About Your Flower Press

OSHIBANA ( 押し花 ) IS THE JAPANESE ART FORM OF USING PRESSED FLOWERS AND BOTANICAL MATERIALS TO CREATE A LARGER COMPOSITION OF ART. ORIGINATING IN THE 1500S, OSHIBANA, WHICH SIMPLY TRANSLATES TO “PRESSED FLOWER,” BECAME ALL THE RAGE IN VICTORIAN-ERA ENGLAND AND THE UNITED STATES BY THE MID-TO-LATE 1800S AS TRADE WITH JAPAN EXPANDED.

No two Posie Presses are the same and because of the nature of wood, every flower press will vary slightly in grain and color. These are not imperfections but rather Mother Nature at work.

Each is made by hand in the Garden State, New Jersey, using the finest supplies. Posie Presses are never made with harsh chemicals so they are not resistant to weather or water.

Using Your Flower Press

It is as simple as it is fun.

Just unscrew the wing nuts and separate the interior layers of your press, using the watercolor paper provided, add flowers in individual layers then re-sandwich the cardboard and paper neatly back in the press. Initially tighten the press down lightly, then continue to tighten the screws throughout the coming weeks as more water is absorbed from the flowers into your blotting paper.

To avoid browning your pressed flowers, change out the paper at the end of each week. It should take 2-3 weeks for your flowers to fully dry. Use your flowers to create compositions on paper, canvas or glass and consider using your newly dried flowers in jewelry applications.

Let your imagination run wild just like your flowers.

Caring for Your Flower Press

Just like the flowers you will soon press, please remember that I am very delicate.

I am not waterproof, so you won’t want to leave me behind in your garden or inside a humid greenhouse.

Please keep me out of the reach of children 6 years or under, as some of  my parts are small and could be accidentally ingested.

To clean me, please use a dry, lint-free cloth.
